Microsoft Word 2000 for Teachers

This inservice is designed for Educators who want to have a thorough working knowledge of Word Processing in a School Environment. The inserve can be offered as a lab based Inservice, or can be taught in a hybrid online and live environment.

 

Inclusion - What Works

Part 1, History, Legislation and Fundamental Concepts of Inclusion

An online inservice that looks at the legal and political environments that shape the delivery models for Special Education. Quality Indicators are determined through reflective practices using on-line conferencing to develop online dialogue. This is also a good overview of Special Education for Regular Education Individuals.

Part 2 Curricular, Environmental, and Administrative Factors of a Quality Inclusion Program

With the base of knowledge developed in Part 1, The group will look at a variety of models and situations where Inclusion is appropriatly utilized. Quality Indicators and online dialogue also play an important part of this course, with all individuals responsible for developing an adapted curricular unit for use in their particular educational setting

 

Educational Toys and New Technology

This workshop allows participants through hands-on and Internet resources to be guided through what new products are available in the general market that have classroom application. The workshop ends with a guided tour through a local electronics store to see what is the "latest and greatest, or too large to be transported to the workshop.

 

Outsourcing

The worshop looks at a variety of Educational Websites and Listservs, to develop a collection of resources for gathering appropriate information for their particular classroom needs.

 

Flashing and Caching your Cookies

The workshop looks deeper into Internet browsing and parts of web pages that are not always apparent to the casual user. Plug- ins, Cookies, Animation, HTML, Java Scripting and Flash are explained and demonstrated how they are a part Internet usage.

 

Voice Input/Output and Speaking Dynamically Pro

Voice input systems with software and firmware technical requirements are shown with live transcription. Speaking Dynamically Pro is a commercial software package that combines graphics and sound for alternate communication or logical sequencing of information. Sample boards and how to use the interfaces will be demonstrated.

 

Big Brother is Watching

A workshop on how classroom computers and networks can be protected and monitored. filtering software. Tracking and Microcomputer settings will be reviewed to show how to prepare a system against unwanted marketing and hacker attacks.

 

Assitive Technology for Technologists

This workshop is designed for individuals with a strong technology background, but limited exposure to Augmentive Communication Devices and Adapted Equipment. Awareness of how and why equipment needs to be altered when working with a special needs Student. Switches, environmental control units, classroom modifications and environmental alterations will be demonstrated.

 

Creating an ONLINE Course

A look at teaching in an online environment and techniques for creating an online course of study. Evaluation, justification for online teaching, and methodology for running an online course will be discussed. Using Internet features to assist in courseware creation such as BLACKBOARD, Instant Messenger, Real time conferencing,email and listservs will be demonstrated for practical courseware development.

 

Online course development for Teachers

Similar to the online course development, this workshop develops the use of simple Web page designers such as Front Page, Internet Explorer, Netscape. Participants will develop an online course outline with a simple webquest for their classroom usage.

 

Scavenger Hunt

Imagine going on a Road Rally with the Internet as your "pavement". Participants in this webquest workshop learn techniques of using quiery systems and search engines to find relavant information for their classroom usage. Participants can work in a lab setting, or over the Internet. This methodology can also be used in classroom or college bowl formats. Which District has the "Most Internet Savvy Staff?" Find out at your next conference day.

 

Modular Leader Training

This is a forum set up to be a repository of information and direct help for staff professionals who are working in a support role for their building/district. Meeting notes, and resource libraries can be developed in this dynamic approach to getting help for those who are the "go to " person for their staff.

 

Playing with Peripherals

There are many types of "stuff" that can be added to the computer. The workshop is designed to expose staff to the wide variety of items available, and to answer connectivity questions that are inevitable when adding additional equipment to a system. Networking basics, Types of connections, and asstive technologies will be demonstrated and explained. A section of the workshop can be "Make and Take" to demonstrate the wide variety of applications that can be done using a printer.
